Tour Overview

Day 1

Nairobi – Ruma National Park

We depart Nairobi at 0700hrs with a stop-over at the panoramic viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley, through Narok Town, a dusty Masai Country and lunch in the town of Kisii. After this we proceed to Ruma National Park via Rongo and Homa Bay, arriving in time for an evening game drive. Named so by a famous Luo tribe legend-Gor Mahia, and branded “last retreat of the roan antelope” this Terrestrial Park plays host to an interesting array of wildlife including the rare roan, black rhino, occasional leopard, hyena, rothschild giraffe, oribi, hartebeest, serval cat, topi, baboons, reedbuck among others. We then drive back to Mbita Point in the evening for dinner and overnight at a Campsite.
Day 2

Ruma - Rusinga Island

After breakfast, we check out of our hotel for a last game drive/nature walk at Ruma National Park, then drive through Mbita Point Causeway to Rusinga Island, the cultural island that “time forgot”. We arrive in time for checkin/lunch at Rusinga Island Lodge and after a short rest, embark on an afternoon leisurely nature walk which will take us to Kanam Prehistoric Sites for an archaeological feel (what with the remains of the early man), the Island windmill, the (famous trade unionist) Tom Mboya’s Mausoleum and the general meet-and-mix with local culturally-inclined and populous Luo tribe at the white-sandy beaches of Lake Victoria. Dinner and overnight is at the Campsite.
Day 3

Rusinga Island - Kisumu

We embark on an early morning boat ride on the breezy Lake Victoria, the world’s 2nd largest freshwater lake. We then return to The Lodge for a late breakfast/checkout and drive back to Mbita Point to catch the Grand Ferry which takes us right across to Lwanda Kotieno on the northern side of the Lake. On our way to Kisumu, we will have a stopover at Kit Mikayi (literally meaning in Luo tribe, rocks of the step-mother). This is a huge rock outcrop that balances 3 other equally huge rocks in space and time, a marvelous sight to behold. We then arrive in time for lunch/checkin at Sunset Hotel in Kisumu, Kenya’s 3rd largest City and a regional hub of commerce. We then visit The Impala Wildlife Sanctuary, a home of impalas, hippos, other reptiles and amphibians, baboons, birds and a caged leopard among others. We then visit the Hippo Point to capture the beautiful evening setting sun’s reflection on the lake while experiencing its somehow hypnotizing feeling. Evening finds us at a Campsite for dinner and overnight.
Day 4

Kisumu - Kericho

After a late breakfast, we check out of the hotel and visit the Kisumu Museum. This is a showcase that hosts a complete and life-size model of a traditional Luo homestead, cultural and scientific elements, artefacts, history, reptiles and amphibians, and an aquarium among other things of interest. We then depart for Kericho town, lunch enroute, arriving in the early afternoon for check in at Kericho Tea Hotel. This is a tea-growing town whose lush evergreen farms make it look like a grand golf course giving one a feel of relaxation, serenity and peace. Evening rest, dinner and overnight is at a Campsite.
Day 5

Kericho - Elementaita

After breakfast, we leave the Hotel and arrange for a countryside drive in the tea estates while tea-picking is in progress. The drive will also take us through bird-watching to various spots like the Lelartet Cliff (hosting red and black and white colobus monkeys), Chagaik Dam and the Arboretum which boasts of hosting a variety of tropical and sub-tropical trees, manicured lawns and a lily-covered lake. After lunch, we leave Kericho town for Lake Elmentaita via Nakuru town, arriving in the late afternoon for direct check in at your hotel, rest, dinner and overnight.
Day 6

Elementaita - Nairobi

After a heavy breakfast, we leave the hotel for the lake viewing, boat and horse riding activity which will occupy a better part of the morning, lunch is taken back at the hotel and then we depart at leisure back to Nairobi signaling end of Safari.
