Tour Overview

Day 1

Nairobi – Samburu

We pick you up from your Nairobi Hotel at 0800hrs. After a short briefing, depart for Samburu Game Reserve via the Thompson Falls, which are named after Joseph Thompson, one of the first European explorers who walked from Mombasa to Lake Victoria in the 1880's. The journey takes between 6-7hrs drive. Lunch is enroute. Arrive in Samburu National Park in time for an evening game drive and bird watching. Dinner and overnight is at the Campsite.
Day 2

Samburu

Morning and afternoon game-viewing and bird-watching sessions tracking different species of birds and the rare, drought resistant animals’ species which can only be seen north of the equator; the reticulated giraffe, grevy's zebra, the gerenuk or giraffe-gazelle, beisa oryx and the blue-shanked Somali ostrich. The Ewaso Nyiro River traverses this Park, it's source being the Aberdare Ranges. There are therefore very high chances of spotting crocodile in a natural environment though its water level varies seasonally. You will have a lunch and leisure break in the mid afternoon. Rest of meals and overnight is at the Campsite.
Day 3

Samburu – Lake Baringo

After a pre-breakfast game drive, depart the Samburu National Reserve to Baringo via the Thompson’s Falls. Lunch is enroute. Lake Baringo is one of the two Fresh Water Lakes in the Rift Valley and a Bird Watchers Paradise, hosting over 460 recorded bird species and a number of hippos. Check in and have lunch at the Campsite where you will be hosted for dinner and overnight.

Note: A resident ornithologist leads walks before breakfast and in the evenings.
Day 4

Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria

After breakfast, proceed for a one-hour bird watching trip by boat to the Crescent Island where you can view hippos too. At the island you can take excursions at an extra cost like a visit to the Njemps village and traditional dances, or to the local snake farm. Leave Baringo to visit Lake Bogoria which is a shallow soda lake and home to a large number of birds and the rare lesser kudu. Scalding Hot Springs and Geysers at the southern end of the lakes spurt and steam their alkaline waters. The bubbling of hot springs, hundreds of singing weaverbirds and a million flamingos feeding in the bluish water present a rare scenic beauty. After lunch, drive to Nakuru for dinner and overnight at a budget hotel.
Day 5

Nakuru

After breakfast proceed for a full day game drive in the nearby Lake Nakuru National Park. Carry picnic lunch. The Park is home to stunning flocks of lesser and greater flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores into a magnificent pink stretch. The bird life here is world renown and over 400 birds species can be seen, e.g. white pelicans and the marabou stork, all water birds that breed in the lakes alkaline waters. You may also spot white rhino, rare Rothschild giraffe, and other plain game. Dinner and overnight is at the Campsite/Budget Hotel.
Day 6

Nakuru - Naivasha

After breakfast, proceed to Naivasha town. With a brief stop-over at the Lake Elmentaita View Point, drive to Hell’s Gate National Park. The Park is famous for its natural steaming geysers and a haven for birdwatchers. The walking/hiking in the Park gives one a sense of freedom, open space and a clear view of wildlife. This is the only Park that allows you to walk among the animals because of the absence of predators. The cliffs are breeding grounds for vultures, verreaux eagles, augur buzzards and thousands of swifts. Over 120 bird species have been recorded here. Lunch is in Naivasha and then in the afternoon you proceed to Lake Naivasha for a one hour boat ride where you will have a chance to spot more birds and hippos. Dinner and overnight is at the Campsite/Budget Hotel.
Day 7

Naivasha – Masai Mara

After breakfast, proceed to Masai Mara National Reserve. The journey takes approximately 5-6hrs drive. On the way you will stop at the Great Rift Valley to take some photos. Arrive in Mara in time for lunch at the Campsite. After lunch and a short rest, spend the afternoon spotting bird in this vast Reserve that hosts plenty of birds’ species. Among the animals hosted here are the wildebeest, zebra and Masai giraffe as well as hippos plus a wide variety of antelopes that include impala, dik dik, hartebeest, Grant’s gazelle and Thompson’s gazelle among others. We will cater for a picnic lunch at the Hippo Pool. Dinner and Overnight is at the Campsite.
Day 8

Masai Mara

After breakfast, proceed for a full day of bird watching and game viewing. You will track game with your guide in this Reserve which forms the same eco-system with Tanzania's Serengeti National Park and is the annual seasonal scene of the migration of close to 800,000 zebra and wildebeest that occurs between the two Parks. Elephant, lion, buffalo can be seen with relative ease though luck is a necessary factor for spotting rhino and leopard that complete the big five as the two animals are very timid and sparsely numbered.

In the later afternoon you will have an option, at an extra cost, of a visit to the local Masai villages to see their nomadic lifestyle; the Masai are famous for their bravery, as they have co-existed with the animals over the years. Dinner and overnight is at the Campsite.
Day 9

Masai Mara – Nairobi

You will have a pre-breakfast game drive. After breakfast, leave the Mara region to Nairobi, lunch enroute. Arrive in the evening.
