Ol Pejeta - Shaba National Reserve
We wake up for an early morning game drive. Back to camp for a late breakfast and check out, we later visit the Rhino and Chimpanzee Sanctuaries and depart the Conservancy with an enroute game drive, heading north-eastwards to Shaba National Reserve about 140KM away where we arrive in time for lunch at the Sarova Shaba Game lodge, thereafter a short afternoon rest and finally embarking on a late afternoon game drive. The Game Reserve set by the extinct volcanic Shaba Mountain (1525M) and dotted with acacia, riverine and thorn trees in a dramatic savanna landscape is home to a variety of wildlife such as elephant, lion, cheetah, grevy’s zebra, giraffe, gerenuk, buffalo, oryx, grant’s gazelle, dik-dik, waterbuck and the rare leopard. The forested areas along its life supporting river Uaso Nyiro provides an array of birdlife including the rare William’s Lark. This park is also known for its setting for the book and film, Born Free (about Elsa the lioness) authored by the late Joy and George Adamson. Before sunset, we drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
